Timetable for a Corn Elder decision

By Brent Sobleski

UPDATE: ESPN 300 wide receiver Corn Elder (Nashville, Tenn./Ensworth) didn't sign a letter of intent on national signing day. He wasn't expected to do so. Elder is trying to make the difficult decision to play either basketball, football or both at the next level. He is nearing a decision.

"...Elder will visit either Florida State, Ole Miss or Vandy this weekend and will sign on February 20th," Yancy Porter of Scout.com tweeted.

Whichever school lands the visit will be vital. Elder is reportedly leaning towards two schools.

"Looks like Purdue for hoops only or Georgia Tech for football/hoops for Corn Elder," J.C. Shurbutt of 247Sports.com tweeted.

A third team could get into the mix with a last minute visit.  Florida State is making a late push to land the talented two-sport star (see: below).

Purdue worked it's way into contention for Cornelius Elder after the Boilermakers offered the recruit as a basketball player.

"I don't know if he puts them at the top but it makes Purdue a very viable option," ESPN Recruiting Nation Midwest coordinator Jared Shanker told Rumor Central. "It is by far his biggest basketball scholarship."

"'(Florida State is) coming in the mix so we'll see how that goes,' Elder stated.

Elder said recruiters have told him they'd hold a spot for him, specifically Florida State, UCLA and Georgia Tech. Elder visited Atlanta to see Tech's campus last week.

'It was good I liked it,' he said. 'Great school. Great campus. Great city. Everything is around Georgia Tech's campus. A good coaching staff and I bonded well with the players.'"
