Virginia leads for ESPN WL safety?

By Brent Sobleski

ESPN Watch List safety Quin Blanding (Virginia Beach, Va./Bayside) is ready to commit, and he will make his official announcement later today. Blanding will reveal his school of choice at 2:30 PM. He will choose between Clemson, Florida State, Miami, Michigan, North Carolina State, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Virginia and West Virginia.

One of the ACC schools appears to have an advantage.

"I believe four schools are still in contention -- Virginia, North Carolina, Ohio State, and Florida State has an outside chance," Michael Clark of Scout.com wrote.

"Of the four schools, Blanding has only visited North Carolina and Virginia.

"Then there is the pipeline of recent players Bayside has sent to Virginia. In fact, Mike London has landed Bayside player in all four of his previous recruiting classes."

Virginia appears to be the logical choice.

“What really turned the tides here was the visit he took to Virginia the weekend before last,” CavsCorner.com's Brad Franklin told Andrew Ramspacher of the Daily Progress. “The coaches did everything they could to kind of keep it quiet, but it was basically just him and the coaching staff and his family.

“He got a chance to see the schemes, to have his questions answered. It was within two or three days after that visit when he kind of announced, himself, that he was going to commit at a ceremony at Bayside.”

Blanding would be a big commitment for the Cavaliers to set the tone for this year's class by landing one of its top in-state recruits.

"Quin Blanding set to announce college decision today. Shock if anyone other than Virginia," Alex Gleitman of ElevenWarriors.com tweeted.
