Young OU RBs will push for playing time

By Brent Sobleski

Oklahoma is set at the top of its running back depth chart with the team's top two rushers, Damien Williams and Brennan Clay, returning to the backfield. But there is room for a young and talented back to steal a few carries in the fall.

"Expect Alex Ross to start getting the ball, and begin showing flashes of what could eventually be a fantastic career," Jason Kersey of the Oklahoma wrote.

Trey Millard could take those carries away if Oklahoma finally starts to fully utilized the talented fullback. Although, it's not certain if he will.

"It remains to be seen if Trey Millard will get more touches as a senior," Kersey added.

Ross isn't the only talented young back on the roster champing at the bit to become a larger part of the Sooners' backfield. A pair of runners could join Ross as potential party crashers to Oklahoma's running back rotation:

"Ross, however, will face stiff competition from incoming freshman Keith Ford, the No. 3 running back recruit this year. Ford ran for 1,868 yards and 24 touchdowns as a high school senior, and had offers from the likes of Alabama, Florida St., Michigan and Texas.

Those two, along with redshirt freshman David Smith, will battle for third wheel in the rotation this season, and for an edge in heir-apparent status going into 2014."
