UK trumps PSU for ESPN WL WR

UPDATE: Penn State has been trumped by the SEC in its pursuit for an ESPN Watch List wide receiver.

"I'd probably say Kentucky and South Carolina are standing out a little bit," Thaddeus Snodgrass (Springfield, Ohio/Springfield) told Justin Rowland of CatsIllustrated.com.

Kentucky has three advantages in this particular recruiting battle to place it slightly above the other two schools previously mentioned. First, it's the closest of the three schools to home. It has SEC appeal. And Kentucky will feature the Air Raid offense. The combination of these factors likely make it Snodgrass' current favorite.

Snodgrass plans to attend Kentucky's junior day which is slated for Saturday.

Penn State has to make every scholarship count due to NCAA restrictions.  The ability to land top talent remains a priority. The school is still capable of doing so. Penn State already has one commit to its 2014 class, and an ESPN Watch List wide receiver has the Nittany Lions high on his list of programs.

Thaddeus Snodgrass is strongly considering Penn State.

"It really is the academic thing that I really like," Snodgrass told Ryan Snyder of BlueWhiteIllustrated.com. "There are some other things. I don't really care about the scholarship reductions or any of that. Coach (Bill) O'Brien has a lot of connections to the NFL, he knows how to run that pro-style offense, he showed that. Coach Stan Hixon has worked with a bunch of great receivers, Dwayne Bowe is one of them."

Snodgrass will visit Penn State Feb. 23. He admitted to Snyder that he would commit by the end of the summer if he's comfortable with his top school.

Penn State's 2014 targets: Thaddeus Snodgrass
"Bill O'Brien and Charles London repeatedly emphasized how they have to do a better job in Ohio, and that could start with Snodgrass. Most thought he would commit to Ohio State, but PSU appears to have the edge. He released a top five on Twitter this week, and PSU was No. 1."
