Latest on Army's QB competition

UPDATE: A starting quarterback is emerging for Army after the Black Knights' third week of spring practice.

"In the quarterback battle it looks like it’s down to A.J. Schurr and Angel Santiago for the starting position," Jim Lawler of ArmySports.com wrote. "While no quarterback has received the official imprimatur of the coaching staff, soon to be sophomore A.J. Schurr is the most impressive. "

Kelvin White, a sophomore, will settle as at the team's third option after he missed most of this past week due to an injury.

Army was the first team to open spring practice last week. The primary objective for the Black Knights is to replace a four-year starter and one of the most productive quarterbacks in school history, Trent Steelman. Army has four options to start behind center, but one has an slight lead at the onset of practices.

"Offensive coordinator Ian Shields said that with the graduation of Trent Steelman the quarterback job is wide open with sophomores A.J. Schurr, Kelvin White competing with junior Angel Santiago and senior Cody Jackson," Jim Lawler of ArmySports.com wrote.

Said Shields, "There is a fight at the bat rack this spring to see who is going to emerge. A.J. may have the upper hand because that’s where we left off last fall, but everything is in light pencil."

Schurr played in four games last year as Steelman's backup. He finished the season with two touchdown passes, zero interceptions and 47 yards rushing in his limited duty.
