Ever since Tyrone Swoopes' dazzling performance in the Texas Longhorns' spring game, which launched him above Connor Brewer and Jalen Overstreet to third-string on the depth chart, starstruck Texas fans have been eager to see what the freshman can do when the action really counts. They'd like to see him pass Case McCoy, too, and be the top backup behind David Ash. Is that best for the program, though? For that matter, is it best for Swoopes? Sean Adams of HornsNation on ESPN.com reminds us all that patience is a virtue:

Sooners out of race for four-star DB?

Four-star safety prospect John Bonney (Houston, Texas/Lamar) let spring go by without making a visit to the Oklahoma Sooners. Does that mean the Sooners are lagging behind in the race for his services?

“That’s not true,” Bonney tells Bob Przybylo of SoonersNation on ESPN.com. “Coach [Tim] Kish visited a couple of weeks ago and said he would be coming back before spring is over. I’ve actually been to OU more than any other campus, including all the ones in Texas.”

Przybylo says the competition for Bonney's services is still a crowded field:

Bob Przybylo
Bonney's busy itinerary
"Bonney was able to make a few trips this spring, attending spring games at Texas, Baylor and LSU. A busy track schedule kept him from making more visits but that will change this summer. Ohio State and Stanford both visited Bonney earlier this week, and he said those are the two out-of-state schools he would most like to see before making a decision. He said Northwestern is in the mix for a visit, too."

Syracuse coach Scott Shafer cannot publicly comment on Oklahoma transfer Drew Allen until the quarterback is on campus and enrolled in school next month. That makes it difficult to gauge where Allen fits in a crowded rotation that already has Terrel Hunt, Charley Loeb and John Kinder. Shafer did explain to ESPN.com ACC blogger Andrea Adelson, though, how he plans on sorting out his depth chart.

What kind of QB does Cam want?

Thought for the day, from a reader of Gary Laney at GeauxTigerNation on ESPN.com: "With Brandon Harris, DeShone Kizer and Mason Rudolph looking like the three main quarterbacks on LSU's wish list, it looks like LSU is going in the direction of the mobile quarterback. Given LSU's history of getting more out of pocket passers (JaMarcus Russell, Matt Flynn) than run-first guys (Jordan Jefferson), should LSU be targeting runners?" Laney has plenty of thoughts on the Tigers, Cam Cameron, and the quarterbacks who will fit his system:

UPDATE: So Mike Gundy has, in what can only be described as a vulgar abuse of power, blocked Wes Lunt from transferring to any school not only in the Big 12, but in the SEC as well. What can Lunt do now?

ESPN football expert Joe Schad says that if Lunt has his heart set on attending Southern Mississippi, Tennessee, or Vanderbilt, he could file an appeal. Otherwise, it looks like Lunt's favored available options would be Louisville or Illinois.

--

UPDATE: Wes Lunt's potential top transfer option may not be available to him, because Oklahoma State reportedly blocked him from the possibility. But Lunt's currently visiting a campus which may eventually become his new home.

The most important position in Clancy Pendergast's defense? It might be the nose tackle, who is expected to fight off double-teams and control the gap on either side of the center. Redshirt sophomore Antwaun Woods was expected to take that spot for USC, and he showed up for spring drills in the best shape of his career, noticeably quicker and more mobile. However, Johnny Curren of WeAreSC at ESPN.com says two other players are also fighting for the job:
